FAQ

Q: What IS PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER "1" OF THE SUMMER GARDENING SEASON?

A: THE JAPANESE BEETLE

Starts to leave the ground and fly between June and early July.  Begins as the "white grub" which can be found in your lawn and flower beds.  The white grub larvae destroy lawns.  The Japanese Beetle, once it leaves the ground, will attack your rose shrubs and many varieties of trees and shrubs.   Leaves of trees and shrubs have noticable missing sections which the Japanese Beetle chews.  The leaf of the tree may look like a skeleton in appearance.

You can purchase Japanese Beetle Traps for your yard at garden centers, or www.saferbrand.com , or www.Amazon.com

Q.  What is PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER "2"

A.  Asian Long Horned Beetle

If you see any of these call your state agricultural department or station to report the presence of this insect pest which is highly destructive to trees:

Q.  What is PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER "3"

A.  Emerald Ash Borer

This insect pest has wiped-out entire populations of ash trees in Michigan, New Jersey, and other locations.  There is not any known way to treat the ash borer except to cut-down the ash tree.  If you see any of these in your yard and notice damage to trees call a licensed state arborist for consultation. I would be glad to recommend Arboreal, Inc. in Stratford, CT

Otherwise, if you see any of these in a park or other location call your state agricultural department to report the location.
